Tropical Storm Melissa Gains Power While Barrels Toward the Island Nation

Hurricane the storm is predicted to escalate to a uncommon Category 5 hurricane as it shifts in the direction of the Caribbean island, bringing life-threatening rapid inundation and rock falls.

The hurricane, which recorded winds of up to 120 mph as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is currently turning northwest in the Caribbean region and is anticipated to hit the coast by early next week, based on data from weather experts.

"A multi-day period of harmful winds and intense precipitation are underway and will cause catastrophic and life-threatening rapid water accumulation and numerous rock slides," urged meteorological officials.

The country's head of government the statesman stated: "I realize that there are countless citizens who are anxious, who are extremely apprehensive, and with good reason: you should be concerned.

"However the optimal approach to manage nervousness and any unease and anxiety is to stay ready."

Inhabitants are being instructed to protect their properties with protective bags and wooden boards, and to gather basic necessities.

Alerts are also active for areas in Haiti including the primary urban center, the Dominican Republic and the eastern part of Cuba, where the hurricane is anticipated to bring similar effects by the middle of next week.

Mudslides presently generated by the hurricane have resulted in two fatalities in the country, according to local authorities.

Melissa is projected to pass over the island nation by the middle of the week before passing across the Antillas Mayores and entering the Atlantic.

By the moment it arrives at the Caribbean nation, it is predicted to have weakened to a third-level storm.
